The 'IT' Pad

The ‘IT’ Pad

Surrey, with its leafy avenues and close proximity to central London and both the international airports of Heathrow and Gatwick has long been a destination of choice for many people setting up home – including some of the most affluent individuals of the recent past.

Now, it would seem, it is beginning to attract a new breed of purchaser – the IT crowd.  Jane Bailey, Sales Manager at Bewley Homes, the design led developer currently constructing developments in Hersham and Leatherhead, says:  “We have experienced a great deal of interest in The Farthings, our current development in Leatherhead, from a number of affluent young professionals working within the IT industry.

“Many need to commute to London which they can easily do from Leatherhead Station which is only a mile away; some have the requirement of frequent travel abroad and both Heathrow and Gatwick are equidistant from here; and given the changing nature of the workplace and the industry itself, many also need to be able to work remotely.

“In short, as a demographic group, IT professionals have fairly straightforward requirements.  They tend to be ‘time poor’ so are attracted to the idea of moving into a home which requires no DIY and very little maintenance, which may be why a newly built home appeals; they want to be able to access central London and the international airports; they want enough space to grow into their home in the short to medium term and they need a property which will accommodate some form of home office.

“The 3 and 4 bedroom properties we have created at The Farthings fulfil all of this criteria, both in terms of location and the accommodation on offer and I believe it is because of this that so many people from the IT industry have bought a property here.

“The homes we have created offer flexible, bright and spacious accommodation – with high ceilings and well proportioned rooms.  Storage is excellent and the layouts are very versatile with the larger properties offering a separate study, and the smaller properties offering the ability to convert a bedroom into a home office if desired.”
