Holmes, the second Guide Dog puppy sponsored by design led developer, Bewley Homes, visited Bewley Homes HQ, to meet the Bewley team in October.
At six months, Holmes is currently living with volunteer puppy walker, Danni, before, at 14 months, starting Guide Dog Early Training. He will then be introduced to a harness, encouraged to ignore distractions and taught the basics of ‘guiding’ which includes leading a person in a straight line without pulling, stopping and sitting at changes in the ground level such as kerbs and steps and avoiding street obstacles. This training will take around 12 weeks. Advanced training will then commence, lasting a further 8 weeks.
Denise Clark, Community Fundraising Development Officer for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, said: “The Guide Dogs charity relies on donations, such as the one Bewley Homes has made, to help people living with sight-loss live independent lives and, on behalf of Guide Dogs, I would like to thank everyone at Bewley Homes for choosing to fundraise for our amazing charity and sponsor a second Guide Dog puppy.”
Andrew Brooks, Managing Director of Bewley Homes, says: “All the staff at Bewley Homes are proud to support the Guide Dog for the Blind Association and our team were enchanted to meet Holmes – the second Guide Dog puppy our company has sponsored, and to learn more about the work of this exceptionally worthwhile charity which we are delighted to help support.”
