Having decided to move it was always going to take something very special to finally entice Andrew and Tracy Britten away from their 350-year-old thatched cottage they had lived in for 30 years in the centre of Overton.
The retired couple took nearly three years to find the right property which would suit their lifestyle before award winning housebuilder, Bewley Homes, started building its Sovereign Gate development in the village.
Bewley is building its high-quality Garden Village Collection consisting of an impressive collection of 82 two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes which are appealing to first time buyers, growing families and downsizers.
Andrew explained; “We had many happy years in our old cottage, which had a very large garden and we grew concerned, that as we got older, we wouldn’t be able to give it all the care it deserved. So three years ago we started to house hunt and it’s taken this long to find the perfect place to move into.
“When we saw that Bewley were starting to build we wanted to view the inside of a house that would be similar to one we might reserve. A friend moved into a Bewley development in Whitchurch so we knew the quality of the build but his house was a bigger house type. So, we drove around the development and found a similar house to the one we were interested in.”
Tracy picked up the story: “We knocked on the door and after a short explanation of why we were there, we asked the owner if we could have a look around. She was so understanding and happily showed us around. We immediately knew the layout would work for us. We ended up reserving off plan and selling our old house to a couple who we knew would give it the love and care it needed.”
Tracy added: “We love our new home. The space is so usable and the rooms are so light and airy. It’s such a cheerful environment I find myself singing as I walk from room to room.
Andrew added: “It’s lovely being in a new home that we can grow old in and still be able to walk to the shops. Bewley has been very considerate with the orientation of the homes. We aren’t really overlooked in our garden and the houses are nicely spaced out. It has a lovely entrance to the site which gives you a sense of arrival.”
Tracy commented: “We recently found out our old neighbour is moving in opposite to us which was a lovely surprise and also discovered there’s lots of locals who are moving to Sovereign Gate. We were invited, by Bewley, to a ‘Meet the Neighbour’ event recently and got to know everyone who is enjoying all the benefits of a new home which is close to the centre of the village and the countryside is on your doorstep.
“We have also been very impressed with the Bewley service. The site manager and sales team have been excellent and deal with anything that needs to be taken care of. I can’t fault them.”
Elaine Stratford, Sales and Marketing Director at Bewley Homes, added: “It’s another lovely story from residents at Sovereign Gate about the journey that has taken them to the development and the community which is growing here. There is strong local interest in the development which is not surprising given the location near the centre of the village, great schools, proximity of a trains station that runs to London and countryside on your doorstep.”
For perspective buyers, Bewley has opened its Marlborough four-bedroom show home at Sovereign Gate for viewings.
