For Anne Fisher, who is a direct descendant to William the Conqueror’s Aide de Camp, buying a Bewley home turned out to be anything but a battle.
Anne and her husband Peter fell in love with a two-bedroom home at Bellmount View in Faringdon from the moment they saw it.
The newly retired couple were initially thinking about buying an old cottage in the country to live out their years together but realised this would come with a fair amount of maintenance and upkeep.
The couple searched for new builds in the area and found Bewley’s popular Faringdon development.
Anne, who worked in the healthcare service, said: “I had been working hard for so many years, the thought of having to renovate was really not what I had planned for retirement. We fell in love with the wonderful environment at Bellmount View. It is such a beautiful area. Our home has everything we need – it’s perfect.”
Peter added: “It worked out well that our move has made us geographically closer to two of our sons and we were able to find a mooring for our boat just 15 minutes away. Life is truly magical and we are so happy. The quality and finish of our home is just amazing. We didn’t have to lift a finger, other an unpack the boxes. We are very excited about living in our new home. We plan to have a very long and happy retirement here.”
The couple have settled right into the new neighbourhood and have raised more than a wry smile by taking their pedigree cat Purdy, on a lead, for a walk with them.
Anne commented: “We have lovely neighbours and the development is very friendly so we like to take Purdy out for a walk and meet people.”
Anne can trace her ancestry back to the ninth Century thanks to a medieval scroll hundreds of years old which documented a relative – Anguerrand de Harcourt – as a close aide to William the Conqueror. “It makes for a lovely piece of family history and we also have a book all about it to pass down the generations,” added Anne.
“My family has ancient roots in Oxfordshire and I am a direct descendant of Sir William Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire which was one of the things which led me to research this area as the ideal place to retire and ultimately to be guided to our lovely Bewley home here in Faringdon.”
Elaine Stratford, Sales and Marketing Director at Bewley Homes, commented: “It’s wonderful to hear these stories from customers whose lives have been so changed for their positive move. Bellmount View is fantastic development which already has a lovely community feeling.
“This part of Oxfordshire is also a great choice for families with fantastic nurseries and schools nearby as well plenty of other important amenities. It benefits from excellent transport links with easy access to the M40 and fast rail links into London.”
