Bewley puts Overton Walking Group on the front foot with sponsorship for new shed

23 Oct 2023

When the Overton Walking Group needed some vital funding for a shed to store all its tools and machinery it turned to local housebuilder Bewley Homes, who are building a stunning new development in the village, for help.

The walking group has instigated a footpath clearing team, which operates in conjunction with the Hampshire Countryside team and the Parish Council to help keep footpaths and walkways clear for local people all year round.

The award-winning local housebuilder was only too happy to support the local group’s initiative and was delighted to see the shed officially open. The walking group, who has over 50 members, are now able to safely store all their machinery after use.

John Troman, Chairman of Overton Walking Group, commented: “It was a really nice gesture by Bewley Homes to support our fundraising to build a shed for all of our tools. Our tools are absolutely essential to keep the walkways clear of debris and brambles and we need them all year round.

“This shed means more to us than just a storage space; it symbolizes the support of our local community and the recognition of the importance of our work. With this newfound resource, we can continue to keep our pathways clear, allowing our fellow villagers to connect with nature and experience the joys of our beautiful countryside.”

John added: “Basingstoke and Deane Council has also donated additional funds to pay for our trailer and we are also very grateful for their support.”

Bewley Homes’ Sales Manager, Stuart Locke, added: “We are delighted to support the Overton Walking Group with this new shed. Our commitment to the local community extends beyond our development projects, and we recognise the importance of initiatives like this. By providing the necessary storage for their equipment, we aim to contribute to the group’s efforts in maintaining the natural beauty of the village.”

“It will also benefit all our residents at Sovereign Gate who will get to enjoy these beautiful countryside walks. Overton enjoys a significant benefit in that there are many footpaths in all directions from the centre that extend through some lovely countryside.

Elaine Stratford, Sales and Marketing Director at Bewley, added: “Bewley is dedicated to ensuring that we build communities within our developments which enhance the wider village community in existence. We appreciate the many benefits of outdoor space, fresh air, and for children, the ability to ride cycles or play outside in this highly technological age. We know that since Covid, open spaces and places to walk and cycle have come far up the list of desires for our purchasers, who may wish to commute for part of the week and then work from home and are keen to fit exercise into their schedules.”

Bewley has opened the doors a stunning new show home at its Sovereign Gate development which consists of 82 two, three, four and five bedroom homes with provision for public open space at the site.
