Bewley opens The Garden Room for staff at its offices to mark the start of Mental Health Awareness Week

14 May 2024

To mark the start of Mental Health Awareness Week (13th-19th May), Bewley Homes has officially opened The Garden Room in the grounds of its offices near Tadley, Hampshire.

With the help of a number of its staff, suppliers and subcontractors, this newly converted space, once an old stable block, has been transformed into a serene environment where staff can take a break, have a coffee and meet up away from their desks.

With thoughtful design elements and comfortable furnishings, the retreat provides staff with an inviting atmosphere to relax, socialise at lunchtime, and connect with outside grounds.

The project, led by Bewley’s Craig Ireland, Chloe Willman, and Angela Terrett, has been welcomed by staff during a tea party.

Angela Terrett, HR Manager said: “We are thrilled to unveil The Garden Room to staff to continue to add to our employee welfare. We believe providing a supportive work environment is essential for fostering a positive and productive workforce.”

Chloe Willman added: “The Garden Room will provide a great space and encourage staff to recharge and interact with one another.”

Craig Ireland commented: “A big thank you to everyone who contributed – staff, suppliers and subcontractors who have made this possible. We called on a few favours along the way and we appreciate all the support from suppliers. We have had fantastic feedback from staff and I’m sure it’ll be a much-used space for staff.”

The timing of the opening of The Garden Room coincides with Bewley’s on-going efforts to support staff with any mental health issues, as well as promoting mental well-being, as Andrew Brooks, Managing Director, explains.

Andrew said: “We try where possible to prioritise the well-being of our staff. The conversion of the old stable block into a peaceful retreat reflects our commitment to creating a supportive and harmonious work environment.

“We recognise the importance of mental health awareness in the workplace, and we are committed to providing our staff with the necessary support and resources.”

The company celebrated the occasion by inviting all subcontractors who contributed to the creation of this unique space for a special afternoon of tea and cakes.
