BEWLEY HOMES SUPPORTS WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK IN READING

In May, Bewley Homes teamed up with Oxford Road Community School in Reading to encourage their students to swap four wheels for two feet for 2015’s Walk to School Week. The nationwide initiative running from 18th – 25th May every year promotes road safety and awareness as well as encouraging a healthier lifestyle amongst children. Launched by Living Streets, a UK charity the campaign reaches over 13 million people, making it one of the UK’s leading behaviour change campaigns for young people.

As well as encouraging more exercise, the scheme looks to teach children about road safety. Courtesy of Bewley Homes, the students were out wearing high-vis jackets that made themselves noticeable to motorists. Mrs Hurst, Headteacher at Oxford Road Community School, comments on the importance of the initiative, “We were really happy to team up with Bewley Homes on this exciting and important initiative. It’s imperative that our children are getting enough exercise on a daily basis and walking to school is a great way to do so. However, with ever increasing congestion on our roads and pavements it’s essential to take the necessary safety precautions. With the high visibility jackets Bewley Homes provided the children were much better placed for a safe and happy journey to school.”

Bewley Homes’ participation demonstrates its commitment to shaping healthier, happier neighbourhoods across Berkshire and the South East. Bewley Park is situated just half a mile from Oxford Road Community School, with a selection of four bedroom houses available from £575,000. The former reservoir site reflects the grand Georgian squares of Reading, retaining original features whilst creating the perfect environment for modern living with a blend of contemporary new build properties.

Neil Simpson, Bewley Homes Sales and Marketing Director comments, “At Bewley Homes we are constantly looking at new ways of investing in the local community. Whilst we are extremely proud of the homes we are providing it is also very important to us that we support worthy initiatives on our doorstep, so we were really pleased to help promote Walk to School Week with Oxford Road Community School.”
