Bewley Bugs race to raise £2,400 for cancer charity

11 Jul 2019

A loveliness of ladybirds from Bewley Homes has raised more than £2,400 for Cancer Research UK after completing the Race for Life in Basingstoke.

The Bewley Bugs – Kate Bayley, Emily Clarke, Jo Cullum, Sheena Goodenough, Charlie Gray, Laura Layton, Jodie Pope, Emma Stockwell, Elaine Stratford, Lindsey Strudley, Toyin Tobi-Ipaye and Helen Van Eeden – tackled the 5-kilometre course around the Down Grange Sports Complex on Wednesday (July 10).

It’s the ninth consecutive year a group from the Baughurst-based developer has taken part in the run, with a different fancy dress theme chosen each year. Previous team costumes have included ballerinas, butterflies, bears and builders. Between £1,000 and £2,000 has been raised each year for the charity since 2010.

Sales and Marketing Director Elaine Stratford, who has completed two of the races for Cancer Research in recent weeks, said: “The Bewley Bugs had a wonderful time at the Race for Life and are really grateful to all those who sponsored us. Every one of us has been touched by cancer in some way, and that’s why it’s so vital to support the work of Cancer Research UK.”

Bewley also actively supports the British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs, Help for Heroes and Sebastian’s Action Trust. Founded in 1991, the independent developer has sites across Berkshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey.
