As The Sunday Times reveals its top list of secondary schools in England and Wales, it reasserts one of the primary reasons why location remains intrinsic to the house buying equation.

The results, which list the top 150 State Schools and top 150 Independent Schools throughout England and Wales, were based on a criteria of 2018 examination results with A* to B grades at A-level double weighted. Within the top 20 state secondary schools, Reading School and Kendrick School, both in Reading – are featured; whilst The Abbey in Reading, makes number 28 on the list of top independent secondary schools.

Andrew Brooks, Managing Director of Bewley Homes, says: “Securing a good location in which to build new homes is the first step in the process to providing a quality product. The bottom line is that we need to build more homes but, crucially, we need to build the right type of homes in areas where they are most needed. Get that part right and price the properties accordingly and houses will sell.

“Whilst wider political and economic factors will always have an impact on market sentiment, the increased regularity in recent times of cyclical ups and downs means people can no longer use them as a valid reason to put their lives on hold – people continue to relocate for work; families continue to grow – as does their requirement for more space. Where there are reasons for people to move home, there will always be a reason for people to buy and sell. Building in areas where the education on offer is second to none, is certainly a helpful factor when it comes to desirability and, by association, saleability.

“That is why we consider location very carefully before acquiring land on which to build and why, if you look closely at The Sunday Times list, so many of the locations the top schools are found in are also areas in which Bewley Homes builds.”
