Bewley Homes has presented Breakthrough Learning with a cheque for £5,000 - part of the fundraising amount raised at this year’s Bewley Homes annual Golf Fundraising Day.

The cheque was presented by Bewley Homes’ Managing Director, Andrew Brooks and the firm’s Commercial Director, Simon Taphouse to Vanessa Nichols, co-founder of Breakthrough Learning, on Thursday 6 September.

Based in Hampshire, Breakthrough Learning is a charity which works with children and adults to develop their learning and thinking skills, helping them to succeed in the rapidly changing 21st century.  They work on the premise that when people are able to control their thinking and their emotions, they become more effective learners which, in turn, helps them become more independent, better at social integration, have improved mental health and experience greater success in their work and social lives.  They teach people how to become more effective learners by helping them to work systematically, to plan and develop strategies, to look for relevant and reliable information, to draw on previous experience and to construct coherent, logical answers, validated by solid evidence.  They also help people understand their own emotions and those of others, giving them the tools they need to engage with society.

Andrew comments:  “Breakthrough Learning is an incredibly worthwhile charity providing those who are challenged by the complexities of modern day life, with the necessary tools to ensure they can thrive in modern day Britain.  Based in Reading, they are helping many of the communities in which we create new homes and where many our team at Bewley also live.  It has, and will always, remain central to our philosophy at Bewley Homes to give back to the communities in which we live and work and we have been delighted to be able to support Breakthrough Learning this year.”

Vanessa, adds:  “We are very grateful to Bewley Homes for supporting our work to help children learn how to learn.  The donation is being used to establish and run our Flying Start group in West Berkshire which is designed to help preschool children develop their thinking skills and improve their ability to learn independently and effectively.”
